What goes around, comes around

I've always believed in what goes around comes around, something like karma.. you get what you give. A Christian friend sent me this article which I found among my archives and thought I'd share it with you. Perhaps you've already read it but it's still a good tale to reread. Enjoy..

GIVE AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU .........

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to eke out a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog.

He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. "I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked. "Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me take him and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll grow to a man you can be proud of."

And that he did. In time, Farmer Fleming's son graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the nobleman's son was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved him? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill.

His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

Someone once said what goes around comes around. Jesus said it another way: Give and it will be given to you, in good measure, pressed down, shaken and running over, will be poured into your lap.

By the way, here's the answer to yesterday's little puzzle.

The King of Pop decided to go for a walk
All on a summer's day.
His i-Pod he brought, no one should talk
But only his Gator-Aide may.
The Knight mare was yelled at, "Don't stalk!"
"Go get yourself a beer or a hole milk, I say!"

  1. Thank you for the story.

But there are many people who don't feel gratitude to the kind deeds of others...

  2. I totally agree with what u wrote. One of mine motto in life is 'do onto other what u like other to do onto u' but I have another motto ie 'do onto other what other do onto u'. Have a nice day.

  4. It kind of makes you wonder how history would have turned out if the farmer had simply taken the money...

Greed and human civilization go hand in hand.

Khengsiong is right, unfortunately, but that's no reason to stop having faith in humanity...if only for the reason that if more people did the same things would be a whole lot better.

  5. Beautiful story, inspiring lessons. It's such kind of humanity that we need in today's world, and it's such kind of reminder that the current leaders should heed.

By the way, the legend has been classified as urban folklore by many hoax-detecting websites.. Here is an example of comments

... but hey, it doesn't stop us from appreciating the beautiful simple nature of humanity rite? I still love the story, and I really wish it is true.

Horny angmoh, tit for tat, eh? Some people deserve that, I guess. You have a nice swinging day, too. I still can't get over your nick. Brings a smile everytime. :)

  7. Doc, gullible as I am, I'm a sucker for such tales. I hope it's true too.

MM, "It kind of makes you wonder how history would have turned out if the farmer had simply taken the money..."

This reminds me of Superman saving Lois from death by reversing the rotation of the Earth.

Greed and human civilization? That too besides greed and human nature.

"...unfortunately, but that's no reason to stop having faith in humanity...if only for the reason that if more people did the same things would be a whole lot better."

Yeah, more power to faith in humanity.
