Russian Artist Makes American Debut

For art lovers amongst you, have you ever come across a painting that captivated you so much, you spent extra time just standing in front of it refusing to move on? Paintings are funny, you either love it or hate it the first time you lay eyes on it. Don't you agree?

However, I'm not much for modern art but I'm impressed with the modern expressionistic works of Russian Artist Victor Lysakov (Lee-sa-kov), who is now making an American debut. The above is one of his paintings. His pieces range in size from a humble 14x14 to a majestic 58x50.

Lysakov, a self-taught artist who reads books incessantly, is celebrated for his vibrant, unmistakable colors and his distinct color palette. He now paints with oil or acrylic on canvas though he started out with watercolor. Creatures, figures, animals and nature are motifs he features on his paintings. Lysakov is not classically trained but studies techniques of Rembrandt's and Bryullov's and spent hours in museums.

Lysakov is renowned in Russia and Europe and have participated in prestigious exhibitions and auctions. He was named one of "The Best European Artists" in 1991.
