PixelTuneup fixes plasma burn in on TVs

Here is a gadget that can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars if you own a television set at home. A TV set lasts a long time but like any other electronics equipment, it can sometimes wear out before it's time.

What do you do with your tv if you find it has burn in, color and contrast not quite what they used to be? Chances are if the problem persists, the usual course of action would be to have the tv replaced. When plasma burn in occurs, you will see faint images of channel logos, sports banners, computer desktop images, game console menus, side bar and others on your tv screen. Though the tv still works, these faint stuck pixel images can be annoying resulting in a lesser-than enjoyable tv-watching experience. Most, if not all of us would just replace the tv not knowing about a gadget that can fix stuck pixels. But wait! Before you go out and spend that cash, there is something else you can do to rectify the problem. Take a look at this video first.

PixelTuneup is the world’s first stuck pixel fixer that improves picture quality and eliminates image retention. It improves color and contrast, eliminates stuck pixels, reduces effects of burn in. It corrects image retention in LCD and LED TVs. There is a 30-day Money Back Guarantee if you are not happy with the result. It says on the website that regular use will also help protect your television set or monitor from static images like cable channel logos, sports banners, computer desktop images, game console menus, and side bar.

PixelTuneup pays for itself many times over eliminating the need for costly repairs or a tv replacement. There is no need to buy a new tv if you don't have to, PixelTuneup may save your hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

The Alaskan sea monster sighted

Are you skeptical that sea monsters, such as Loch Ness of Scotland, still lurk in the oceans? They say cameras don't lie, video camcorders included, of course. One or rather a school of them sea monsters were spotted at Bristol Bay as posted by last month. It has a horse-like head at the end of a long neck, with big eyes and humps on its back. It undulates above the surface for just a moment before diving back underwater -- leaving even the most seasoned sailors scratching their heads.

It sounds like any of the thousands of sea serpent stories, from Scotland's Loch Ness Monster to Lake Champlain's Champ. But this time there's video.

Seeing is believing..

The Spanish champions claimed the trophy for the fourth time thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Cesc Fàbregas against nine-man Porto.

Lionel Messi and Cesc Fàbregas scored late in either half as FC Barcelona defeated nine-man FC Porto at Stade Louis II to win the UEFA Super Cup for the second time in three editions and a fourth overall.

How to prepare for a hurricane (or other emergencies)

CNN reported that New York is ordering first mandatory evacuations in city history. Hurricane Irene will parallel the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina coasts Friday as it approaches a Saturday landfall in North Carolina.

Officials in counties and cities along much of the East Coast also ordered evacuations. It is forecasted that millions of dollars could potentially be lost in damages.

Below are static images of satellite view and projected path of Hurricane Irene from CNN.

An earthquake can be the scariest natural disaster to encounter because you don't know it is coming. Tuesday's earthquake on the U.S. East Coast caught everyone by surprise. It shows what can happen when a big event happens with no warning.

As for hurricanes, with all the sophisticated equipment, we have an idea days in advance when it will hit land and preparations can be made to protect yourself and your family. Below are pictures of measures people are taking in preparation of the approaching Hurricane Irene. For us who have no experience at all with hurricanes, these preparations for such an emergency are eye-opening especially the act of boarding up the home.

CNN has this useful article on How to prepare for a hurricane which could probably apply to other emergencies besides a hurricane.

Some tips:

Have a portable disaster supply kit – It's important to gather some things before a storm, because supplies may be gone after the storm hits. This to-go bag should be portable, and it should contain:

–Bottled water
–Blankets and pillows
–First-aid kit and any medicine you need
–Flashlight and extra batteries
–Radio or NOAA weather radio
–Cash (ATMs may not be available for several days)
–Pet care items

Have a plan

–Know if your home is vulnerable to storm surges, flooding and wind.
–Have a safe room/area. The safest area may not be in your home, but may be a shelter in your community.
–Know the route away from danger. Some communities have hurricane evacuation zones. Have a primary and alternative route.
–Plan places where your family can meet in and out of your neighborhood
–Have an emergency contact who everyone in your family knows and can contact.
–Secure your home. Forget about taping your windows (This will not stop any objects hurled through the air by 90 mph winds). Have plywood custom-cut to fit your windows and pre-drill holes in the plywood for screws. Custom shutters can also be made ahead of time. Also, remove all dead or loose limbs from trees and shrubs on your property.

A tax-deductible move - buying a PC, Laptop or Tablet

What is the cheapest way to get connected when thousands of miles apart? Via the Internet, of course! A colleague just bought a laptop for her mom because her new job requires her to travel often overseas.

Not sure which brand of laptop she bought but I know that after looking through the latest laptops at several IT centers around town, she picked one that's of medium price. Surprisingly, laptops are very affordable these days. In this world of connectivity, every household could do with one unit at home. Besides, as a taxpayer, it's tax-deductible.

Buying gold online

Most of us do some shopping online, some regularly shop online while a small number of us even shop online 100% of the time choosing not to go through the hassle of driving to a physical store thus avoiding traffic jams and long queues at the checkout counter. And for some, shopping online could be the best thing that's ever happened!

We buy books, clothes, shoes, household items, kitchenware, insurance, movie tickets, watches, CDs, DVDs, medications, exercise equipment and lots of others online. Perhaps, it's now time that we also buy gold coin online. Besides the price factor, the next stumbling block to buying gold (or silver and other precious metals) is that it is not that convenient. Wouldn't you agree? For instance, over here, in order to buy gold, one has to go to a bank, open an account by filling in a form before ownership of gold can happen. Maybe it's the same procedure in other countries, I don't know.

I just received an email about a vending machine for buying gold coins in many denominations but that is only in Abu Dhabi. I'm pretty sure this convenience won't happen anywhere else in the world for a long time or perhaps never at all. If you are looking to buying gold online or to buy gold coin, the next best thing would be buying it online. Buying gold online offers many advantages especially if you are shopping with Oxbridge House where they have experts to help you with your transaction whether it's for an investment or a collection.

Friday Frolics - Are you Sex, Drugs, or Rock n Roll?

So, am I Sex, Drugs, or Rock n Roll? This quiz says I'm Drugs and that I'm a trippy hippie! Gosh!

Talk about hippie, I saw a movie the other day on Astro. It's a movie about how Woodstock came about, the land/farm lease, the preparations leading up to the concert, how it became a free affair, the goings-on in and around the farm, etc. No actual footage of the concert though. Not sure how close the storyline is to the real thing but it was informative enough and a fun movie.

Okay, back to the quiz..

You Are Drugs

Whether you actually do drugs or not doesn't matter... you're one trippy hippie!

You're always seeing things from an alternative point of view. The colors are little brighter and bolder for you.

You don't live your life with any rules. You embrace freedom and challenge authority.

You want to expand your mind and your horizons. You don't mind experimenting a little to find your bliss.

School girl outfits

A mommy at work is all excited about her little girl taking part in a kindergarten class play at an upcoming year-end concert. She said she doesn't have to do anything in preparation, even the kids' costumes are being taken care of by the kindy.

I've often wondered how do schools get the costumes for such events. Do they commission someone to tailor them or buy them off the peg? And the costumes fit so snugly too. These days, dressing up for a costume party is no longer a hassle. One can even buy adult school girl outfits in many different styles. I am bookmarking this site.

Crystal balls banned for sale in Malaysia

If you have these crystal balls also known as Jelly Ball, Crystal Jelly, Baby Jelly, Baby Crystal and Crystal Soil at home and within reach of small children, you may want to get rid of them or move them away out of reach. These jelly balls are used to facilitate the growth of a plant or as a decoration in a pot.

The government has decided to ban their sale after receiving reports from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital of several cases of major surgery involving children aged one to five who were believed to have swallowed the "crystal balls." The ban takes effect from Friday, which is tomorrow.

Symptoms experienced from swallowing these jelly-like balls include vomiting, constipation, bloating of the stomach, abdominal pains, bowel obstructions and intestinal leakage.

Poland and Italy have banned the crystal balls last year.

Best paint remover from

Ever tried removing paint from wood either from the floor or a cabinet or a chair? Remember how hard it was and the toxic smell you had to bear with?

Most paint removers are made with petrochemicals which are toxic to both man and the environment. Petrochemicals are also expensive and costs would eventually be absorbed by the consumer. All this has changed with the introduction of a soy based paint remover by Franmar.

Looking to remove one or more coats of paint safely or a better way to remove paints and other types of coats without the back-breaking work of sanding and chiselling? SOY-Gel Paint & Urethane remover is the only paint remover you will need to complete your project safely without having to suffer the ill-effects of harmful petroleum strippers. The SOY-Gel could very well be the best paint remover in the market being made from natural soy, is 100% biodegradable, and is safe for your hands, your home, and your antiques. To accommodate customer requirement the SOY-Gel Paint & Urethane remover comes in a number of sizes from a quart bottle to 55-Gallon drums.

Whether you are a remodeler, restorer, or a do-it-yourselfer, Franmar has the solution you need to remove paints, urethanes, acrylics, epoxies, and enamels with much less effort and no toxic fumes. Try it to believe it!

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO

The inevitable has arrived. Steve Jobs is leaving Apple as CEO.

(CNN) -- It's a moment many tech fans hoped never would come: Steve Jobs' resignation from the helm of Apple, which he co-founded from his family garage in 1976.

As that news hit early Wednesday evening on the East Coast, people rushed to online social networks to mourn the apparent end of Jobs' career; talk about what this means for the future of Apple products like the iPhone; and wish him good health.

"The end of an era!" one Twitter user wrote.

"I pray it's not bc (because) of his health," said another.

Yoga mats at will

Do you believe in vibes? Vibes can mean different things to different people. It can be coincidence to one, fate to another or plain providence to the next. It can be good vibes; it can be bad vibes.

A girlfriend who attended a get-together on Monday was thrilled when she opened her gift after the gift-exchange. Inside, she found not one but two yoga mats. Back to vibes, she had planned to go shopping to replace one of her yoga mats this weekend and this gift has saved her a trip and extra expenses. What a coincidence? This is the type of vibes I was referring to. Do you think things happen for a reason?

Here's an image of a nice yoga mat.

Insurance plan that pays immediate annuities

Not sure if this type of insurance is available here in Malaysia but over in the U.S., there is such an insurance plan called single premium immediate annuities or simply "immediate annuities."

What this means is that this insurance product requires only a single payment and after that the insurance company pays you a pension for the rest of your life.

Single-premium immediate annuities are most useful for individuals or couples who are already at retirement age. A retiree can use his/her savings to purchase an immediate annuity, which will ensure steady income for his/her entire retirement, no matter how long he/she lives.

Manchester United 3, Tottenham Hotspurs 0

I couldn't stay up to watch this morning's game between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. MU's second successive win puts the league's champions at second place behind neighbours Manchester City. MU is in search of a 20th domestic title.

According to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "The second-half performance was absolutely fantastic."

Here are the stats if you are interested.

Polaris sportsman parts

An auto accessories shop always fascinates me. I'm fascinated by the myriad items that are available in such a shop. Inventory-taking must be quite a task, I imagine.

The other day, I tagged along a colleague to an auto accessories shop and had the chance to be up close browsing through the rows and rows of auto and motorbike parts. There were bolts and nuts of various sizes, steel ropes, LED flood lights, axles, winches and lots more. I suppose if you are looking for polaris sportsman parts, they would be available in this shop too.

A different kind of Bearings

I'm supposed to talk about bearings, of the hardware type like those in the image, but a different kind of bearings came to mind after a girlfriend's call. This girlfriend has just signed up for her company's treasure hunt. This year, they'll be heading south with Malacca as the destination. Last year, they headed east to Kuantan and the year before that, it was north, Lumut. So far, her team (usually of 4) has not won any prize yet. Hope they win something this year.

I haven't tried treasure hunting but another girlfriend who has joined several open treasure hunts earlier never tires of it. The ability to read maps, a keen sense of observation and a quick mind could be winning factors, I think, as they help in you getting your bearings right in an unfamiliar environment.

Talk about bearings, I once took a wrong turn coming out of Nilai, a town south of KL, and had to drive all the way to Seremban on the North-South Expressway because there is no allowance for a U-turn along that stretch of the highway. It was way past midnight when I got home. (Seremban is some 40 miles south of Kuala Lumpur which is usually an hour's drive.) That kind of explains why I haven't tried treasure hunting. LOL!

Going bananas..

Are you a Monday blues person or one who says, "Thank God It's Monday!"? I'm not kidding about the latter. Some of us really do prefer Mondays to other days for their own reason(s). Me? Mondays are alright though Friday is still my favorite day of the week. Psst... I'm a Friday child.

Feeling the blues today? Here is something to cheer you up a little. Bananarama comes to mind, doesn't it? Holy bananassssss!

Friday Frolics - The Snowflake Test

While we are basking in sunshine here, let's give a thought to people in New Zealand who are going through terribly cold and unusual weather being hit by polar snowstorms Sunday night and Monday with numbing rain, sleet and snow. For Auckland and Wellington in North Island, it was reportedly the first snowfall since the mid 1970s. Roads were blocked, flights grounded and power cut across New Zealand.

This week's quiz in relation to snowflakes seems appropriate. Have a wonderfully warm weekend, everyone!

You Are Unique Because You're Free

Unlike most people, you don't let yourself be bound by rules and expectations.

You do whatever you feel like doing. You insist on a lot of freedom in your life.

You are rare in that it doesn't bother you to be judged. You don't consider other people's opinions.

Like a snowflake, you go wherever the wind takes you. And that's a very liberating feeling!

Used MRI equipment

Nowadays, awareness of the need to conserve our resources has found ready buyers for used or previously-owned or some call them pre-loved items. From books to bags, clothes to cars, even niche items like aircraft and medical equipment to name just a few generics - they all have ready buyers.

Economics could be a contributing factor to the choice of purchasing refurbished over brand-new items. Substantial savings could be realized with purchasing refurbished items, savings which could be channelled to other areas of need. Besides, a refurbished piece of equipment could be as good as new having parts being replaced and all.

Not many of us would need this kind of equipment but if you are in the market for used medical imaging products and/or services, here is a source for you.

Chicago Medical Exchange (Chicago MEDX) with over 20 years of experience in the medical imaging industry, is a source for refurbished medical imaging equipment from used c-arm to used cath lab, CT scanners, Mammography equipment, even used mri equipment. They provide complete turnkey operations, including equipment drawings and planning, applications, project management, delivery and installation, training, warranty and extended service. They also buy your used equipment if you have any to offload. Call them.

McDonald's staff & Nike's new seamless shoes

Two interesting videos to watch and probably come away with a new insight. They say perception is real but sometimes it can be deceiving you'll see.

By the way, are you (in Malaysia) aware that McValue meals for lunch and buka puasa (breaking fast) come with much reduced prices? These promo prices only apply from noon to 3pm and from 6 to 9pm.

Conference calling services to the rescue

We had a free round of teh tarik (pulled tea) this morning at breakfast, a small celebration, if you will. A colleague who was scheduled to attend a meeting in India, Mumbai to be exact, needn't have to make the trip afterall.

Everyone would jump at the opportunity to travel at company expense, right? Not this person. This colleague of ours does not like to travel and will try to get out of an overseas meeting if she can. She got her wish come true again. Her trip is scheduled for September which she has already made travel reservations for. Fortunately, tickets have not been issued so no loss there. We have conference call facilities in our major conference rooms so thanks to conference calling services, she could follow the meeting proceedings without having to be there. Technology rocks, eh?

Toxic art - Portraits using Pills

Celebrities make popular subjects for art, in any medium. These celebs don't need introduction. Besides being famous in the entertainment arena, one thing they have in common is that they are no longer with us. Gone too soon, indeed! What did they all succumb to? Take a closer look at the images below and you might get a clue. Click on them to enlarge for a better view.

Amy Winehouse

Michael Jackson

Heath Ledger

Great works of art, don't you think? These portraits are created by a U.S.-based artist, Jason Mercier, using colorful medications, as part of a series of mosaics inspired by celebrities who battled drug abuse.

Rehab-star Amy Winehouse died at the end of last month, bringing to an end her well publicised battle with crack cocaine, heroin and alcohol. We all know what happened to Michael Jackson and Heath Ledger.

So sad..

Hacker group to destroy Facebook on Nov 5?

Can't live without Facebook? Need you be concerned about the following news? (courtesy of Daily Chilli.)

An-anti Facebook movement called Operation Facebook, or #OpFacebook, is reportedly planning to kill the social networking site on November 5.

Calling themselves Anonymous, the hackers posted their video message on YouTube, saying: "Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed.

"Everything you do on Facebook stays on Facebook regardless of your privacy settings, and deleting your account is impossible. Even if you delete your account, all your information stays on Facebook and can be recovered at any time."

Operation Facebook added: "[Facebook] knows more about you than your family. It has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world."

But the real hacker group, Anonymous has denied that it is behind the planned attack.
