Friday Frolics - What Kind of Storm Are You?

We've been having a fair bit of rain here in Kuala Lumpur or rather in the Klang Valley lately. Can't say that's a bad thing, far from it. For one, no chance for water rationing to rear its ugly head again and, we could do with some reprieve from the 'heat of summer'. heheh!!

If you are guessing this week's Personality Quiz is about the weather, you are right.

If you were a Storm, what kind of Storm do you think you are? Take the quiz below to find out.

Happy Friday, everyone!

You Are a Thunderstorm

You are a bit temperamental and unpredictable. You have a lot of pent up energy.

You don't strike often, but when you do it can be deadly. You can be extremely destructive.

People find you to be amazing and awesome. You can be a bit scary at times, but that just adds to your appeal.

You tend to get other people excited whenever you're riled up. You aren't usually the only storm in town.

Love at first bite - durian

A story on The Star a couple of days ago made me smile. Any story of a Mat Salleh (foreigner) who loves durians is a good story to tell, yes?

Meet Gabriel Granback. It was love at first bite for this Swedish student when he first tasted durian two weeks ago at Balik Pulau in Penang, the place touted for having the best durians in Malaysia.

The 23-year-old loves the fruit so much that he can consume about 10 durians a day either for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Let's hear what he has to say.

“I first tasted durians in Thailand. I thought it was really good. Later, I did some research on the Internet and found out that in Malaysia, the best durians come from Penang.

“The durians here are on another level. The smell and taste are sensational and they cannot be found in Thailand.

“The taste is like a creamy vanilla fudge with chocolate. I could have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well,” said Granback, a first-time visitor to Penang.

Am I glad Malaysian durians are back in season! Yay!

Rubik's Cube turns 40 today

I never did own a Rubik's Cube, you know, one of those colourful cubes where you twist and turn to get the colours to align. Just the other day, it occurred to me that I should own one of those just for nostalgia sake.

Today, Google commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube with an interactive Google doodle. Yep, it's been 40 years!

Rubik's Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the Magic Cube, it won the German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle that year. As of January 2009, 350 million cubes had been sold worldwide making it the world's top-selling puzzle game. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.

Although the Rubik's Cube reached its height of mainstream popularity in the 1980s, it is still widely known and used. - Wikipedia

Do you or did you used to own a Rubik's Cube? Any good with it?

Is there a Bigfoot in Malaysia?

We have heard of Bigfoot or Sasquatch sightings in the U.S. but is one here in Malaysia too? Some people think so as footprints such as those made by a huge person have been spotted in Johore. Accompanying them are also tiger and elephant paw prints.

Take a look..

The article in The Star today indicates that the trail of the muddy footprints stretched close to 1km near the Endau Rompin forest reserve in the southern state of Johore - just across from Singapore.

A group of friends from Singapore decided to follow the tracks for more than 1km on May 10. What baffled the group further was that the “Bigfoot” tracks were accompanied by those of an elephant and a tiger. The group took countless pictures and even measured the large footprints, which were about 48cm long and 11cm wide.

However, "State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Hasnan Yusop said a team of officers conducted checks on the footprints and concluded that they probably belonged to an elephant.

“This could be a sluggish elephant which dragged its feet as it walked, resulting in an elongated print,” he said.

Referring to the prints of the elephant and tiger, Hasnan said the animals need not necessarily have been travelling together but could have used the same paths at different times.

The last time a supposed “Bigfoot” made the news was in 2005 when a group of workers claimed to have seen a huge furry creature in Kampung Mawai, Kota Tinggi.

The workers tried to pursue the creature but lost track of it.

They too reported discovering huge footprints measuring between 40cm and 50cm in the mud.

Johor Malaysia Nature Society chairman Vincent Chow said he received news of the “Bigfoot” prints the day it occurred, adding that it was quite impossible to be a prank because the footprints went on for more than 1km.

“It could be an upright bipedal primate that has yet to be discovered,” he said, adding that there had been many sightings of these footprints, especially by the locals, but the authorities often did not take them seriously."

Friday Frolics - The Rubber Duckie Test

Due to time constraint, a friend who just came back from Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) missed visiting the huge world largest Rubber Duck display at the Ban Nguyet (Crescent) Lake in District 7. The art installation has been on display since April 27 and will run until May 31.

A little about this Rubber Duck. It is designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman with the intention of "Spreading joy around the World". Started in 2007, Rubber Duck has travelled to many countries around the world including Australia (Sydney), Hong Kong , China (Beijing), the US (Pittsburg), Japan (Osaka and Onomichi), Brazil (Sao Paolo), New Zealand (Auckland), France (Saint Nazaire) and Azerbaijan (Baku). HCM City will be the 16th venue where it is displayed.

Hofman once said in an interview that he wanted to remind people around the world of their childhood memories with the world exhibition of his work. Have you been to one of the displays?

Hey look! There's even a personality quiz relating to the rubber duckie. Let's do it!

Buddha Quotes on this Wesak Day - May 13, 2014

I thought some Buddha quotes would be good on this Wesak Day, incidentally, it is on May 13 this year.  For Malaysians, this day is a part of our history for on this day, in 1969, many in Kuala Lumpur perished as a result of a supposed racial riot. But that's for another day.

On this day of peace and Buddhist celebration, I wish You and Your Family well. (And Wesak Day is a National Holiday.. Yay!)

Happy Wesak Day!
